Ever wanted to be a superhero? Now is your chance! Check out the tips below to see how you can save energy in your home and help to save the planet. For those of you with brothers and sisters, why not keep an eye on them to make sure they are doing their bit too!

Don't be a drip!

Do you leave the tap running when you brush your teeth? Do you sometimes leave a tap dripping after you've washed your hands? What a waste! By making sure that taps are properly turned off you could be saving enough water each week to fill half a bath.

Pull the plug!

Can you make a list of how many things in your house need to be plugged in? Mobile phone chargers, computers, kettles, Televisions and lots more?

How many of these things do you and your family unplug when you've finished using them? By pulling the plug you could be saving lots of electricity, which means you're being much kinder to the environment, and your parents could be saving money too!

Flick the switch!

Do you leave the light on when you leave a room and there is no one else there? So flick the switch and turn it off! You're wasting energy.

Bright Sparks!

Time to explore! How many energy saving light bulbs can you find in your house? Energy saving light bulbs use far less electricity than standard light bulbs, so they are better for the environment, last longer and cost less to run.

Parent Power!

Now it's the grown-up's turn and you're the boss! Impress them with your energy saving knowledge and make sure you're not doing all of the energy saving work by making sure they stick to these 'parent power' tips.

  • Don't pour money down the drain! By wasting water you're wasting money. Fix any dripping taps and you'll see a reduction in your water bills.
  • Switching every standard light bulb in your home for an energy efficient one will save electricity and make a big difference to the environment and your bills.
  • Don't leave the TV on standby when you're not using It -  It wastes lot's of energy and lot's of money! In the UK alone, we could save over £230 million on electricity bills if we switched things off when we weren't using them.
  • Don't waste energy by boiling a full kettle of water for one cup of tea!
  • If you're not filling up the washing machine or dishwasher, you can save energy by making sure your machine is set to economy mode
  • By turning your central heating thermostat down by just 10C you could save 10% on your heating bills. That's roughly £40 per year!
