Why 'low carbon'?

If you can imagine that around the earth is an invisible blanket containing fossil fuel "greenhouse" gasses including CO₂. This blanket helps to stop heat escaping. But adding more CO₂ into the atmosphere increases the effect of the blanket trapping the heat and so increasing the temperature of the planet. This is why anything that can reduce emissions and has a low carbon output is a good thing and helps the environment.

And what about renewables?

Renewable energy is the term used to describe energy that comes from sources that are naturally replenished such as sunlight, rain and geothermal heat.
