Micro-CHP

Micro-CHP

Micro-CHP (combined heat and power) is the simultaneous production of heat and electricity in the home through a unit which replaces a conventional central heating boiler.

This newly developed technology is a revolution in the domestic heating market. Heat and hot water will be provided as usual, but the system will also generate a certain amount of electricity which can then be used in the home and any surplus sold back to the grid.

What does this mean for the environment?

On average only 35% of the energy produced in a power station can be used in the home, while 65% is lost during the generation and transportation process.

Micro-CHP is over 90% efficient. And it helps the environment because electricity generated in the home displaces electricity normally brought in from the grid system and therefore reduces carbon.

What does this mean for your wallet?

Depending on the heat demand in your home, the electricity that your Micro-CHP unit will generate, while it is producing heat, will represent an economic saving over the life of the unit.

You will also benefit from the reduced VAT rate (5%) that applies to professionally installed microgeneration technologies such as Micro-CHP, helping to reduce the overall cost compared to conventional boiler.

What's more, when you generate your own electricity you are less dependent on the grid. If you don't use it all you could find yourself receiving money by selling your surplus back to your energy company. Now wouldn't that be nice...
